Dell Unique USB Digital TV Tuner for Inspiron Mini Family

Dell announced a new accessory item for the Inspiron Mini 9 in the form of the Dell USB digital TV tuner stick. Designed in conjunction with Siano Mobile Silicon and Hauppauge Computer Works, Dell will be offering the TV tuner in region specific versions later this quarter with folks in Europe getting it first followed by North America, Asia-Pacific, and China.
- The Dell USB Digital TV Tuner is designed to connect to the Inspiron Mini, turning it into a Digital TV.
- Starting at $50, the Dell USB Digital TV tuner will receive live and free over-the-air local digital and HD TV broadcasts where available.
- Dell plans to offer regional-specific versions of the Digital TV Tuner, designed to receive local broadcast standards, including mobile digital television standards like ATSC in the U.S., DVB-T in Western Europe, ISDB-T 1-seg (a.k.a. One Seg) in Japan, and the emerging CMMB standard in China.
- The USB Digital TV Tuner works with the Dell customized version of Ubuntu Linux (8.04), Windows XP and Windows Vista Basic.
- Similar in size to a USB key or “thumb drive,” the Digital TV tuner includes a built in telescoping and articulating antenna that retracts into the sleek glossy black case.
- The Dell USB Digital TV Tuner received a 2009 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Honoree Award.
- The Dell USB Digital TV Tuner is ready for the digital TV switch-over in the U.S. starting February 2009.
- Dell teamed with Siano Mobile Silicon and Hauppauge Computer Works to design the USB Digital TV Tuner
